I saw chickens in West Springfield. Just walking around. Like, real chickens. Not in a fence or on a leash or anything. Free-range chickens in West Springfield.
Did anybody know that there were wild chickens in West Springfield? I mean, really. Is that legal? I know there have been some wild animal sightings in my town, but chickens? There was a fisher cat once. I also saw a possum (opossum?) once. That's kinda like a wild animal.
I did not see any eggs.
So...that was my weekend. Chickens. Wild chickens.
I didn't believe it at first so I took a picture. The picture is real and exists on my phone. So if you are going chicken hunting, come to West Springfield. We got the wildest chickens in the west!
Apparently I live on a farm. Huh. Who knew?
I'm off to milk a cow...because I live on a farm.
Enjoy Everything.

the whip city
I was thinking about Whip City yesterday. Westfield is Whip City, for those who don't know. That's in Massachusetts, for you out-of-state readers. Mass is in the United States, for you international readers. My blog is huge in Thailand. HUGE!
Anyway, Whip City is actually a cooler name than Westfield. They should have used that name instead. Who wouldn't want to live in Whip City?
I would like to live in Sword City. Or Ninja City! I don't know where those are, but I should find them!
I should become president so I can change the names of cities. They're so boring. Southwick. What does that even mean? The bottom of a candle?! How about Super City!
Springfield could be Awesome City! West Springfield could become Sword City!
The exclamation point is actually part of the name. I'm not just yelling a lot. And they are not factorials. It's just there to add pizzazz.
Awesome City!, MA
Ninja City!, MA
Whip City!, MA
Get it? Cool. Got any cool names for cities?
Next time we'll rename the states. Especially Utah. They should have named it Wha-Bam!
I'm off to run for president.
Enjoy Everything.

summer hike
I saw Santa the other day. He was hiking through West Springfield.
How did I know he was hiking? He had a large hiking stick. And he was wearing hiking clothes. I think he was hiking for car parts because he was standing in front of a car parts store. I don't know what Santa needs car parts for. Especially since he is such an avid hiker. Maybe he was doing some shopping for you.
I wanted to ask him for stuff, but I was in my car and didn't have a good spot to turn around. He was probably tired from hiking, anyway. Still, it would have been nice to get my requests in early. I know it might take a while to build a giant robot dinosaur, so I don't want him to feel rushed.
I also didn't have my list prepared. It's not like I was expecting him to hike through town in the summer.
Did you see him hiking the other day? Did you give him your list? Lucky. You're always prepared, aren't you. Fine. Maybe you'll get your giant robot dinosaur and I'll just get a dolphin.
Again.
You don't have to be such a showoff.
I'm off to get my list ready.
Enjoy!

the city of homes
I was talking to the traffic guy at work this morning and he asked me what Springfield was called. I told him it was the "City of Homes." I guess he didn't believe me because when we spoke a little later, he told me I was right...after he looked it up online.
Yeah. He thought it was so dumb that I was making a joke. As if I were saying it's the city of trees because it has trees in it. No. Sacramento is the city of trees.
Where did these nicknames come from? Did one of the founders look over Springfield and say, "I see a lot of homes here. You could, in fact, say that it is a city of homes."
To which his companion/sidekick would say, "I agree sir, but wouldn't that be true of all cities?"
And our founder would reply, "No. Only my town has homes. All the others have houses. No sausage for you tonight."
People were mean back then.
Are you interested in some of the other nicknames for our Western Mass cities? Grand! I will tell you!
West Springfield: West Side! Yeah...because it's the west side of Springfield. Another brilliant observation.
Amherst: (there are actually two...and they are gems) A-town and The Herst. Wow...really? Ok, so let's start off with "The Herst." Did somebody think that was cool in, like, 1983?
"Yo, I'm stoked to the max that I'm going to The Herst today. Totally."
Riiiiiight...and I don't even want to start with "A-town." I'm guessing that was an insult because it looks too much like another "a-" word.
Northampton: (another twofer) Hamp and NoHo. Hamp is about as cool as Herst. Scratch that. Hamp about as bodacious as Herst. I'm pretty sure they just stole NoHo from New York.
The final two that I have today are nothing special but I will give them honorable mentions because they are good from a business point of view.
Holyoke is Paper City and Westfield is Whip City. Holyoke is a good supplier of paper and Westfield sells a lot of whips. Which, for some reason, are still in demand even though nobody rides horses. I can't figure that out. I'll have to look it up.
So there you have it. I don't want you to think I'm making fun of Western Mass. I just wanted to keep it local. I could do this all day if I looked at every city in America. Remember Sacramento? It's the city of Trees. Wait...are you saying there are trees there? WOW! That's some keen observational skills! (heavy on the Sacramento sarcasm)
I'm off to The Herst...because it is rad to the max.
Enjoy!
