more studies

At first I thought people just created studies to make headlines. I forgot about the people who like to laugh at babies.

Scientists wanted to see if babies could learn in their sleep. To do this, they would play a tone and then blow a puff of air on their faces. The babies replied with a scrunched-up face. Mostly because some jerk was shooting them with an air gun.

Then, they started playing the tone without the puff of air. Wouldn't you know it, the babies still scrunched their faces. Probably because they were afraid some jerk was going to shoot them with an air gun.

They did this to study developmental disorders. I think I know one. When these babies grow up, they'll hear this tone and scrunch their face! And everybody will make fun of them!

Not cool, scientists. Sure, it's fun to make fun babies, but you don't want to scar them for life. At least wait until puberty for the real mental torture.

That's how it was for me. It's just nature's way.

I'm off to therapy.

Enjoy Everything.

scotus

Did you know that the Supreme Court of the United States is also known as SCOTUS? I never thought about it until I read it in some news article. It was about the Supreme Court. Beyond that, I didn't really care because I fell in love with the word SCOTUS. I've heard of POTUS for the president, but never thought about the Supreme Court. Heck, I didn't even know we had a Supreme Court until yesterday. Now I love them. Well, I love their acronym.

Scotus is the kind of word you can use in everyday conversation:

Person: "How are you feeling today?"

Me: "Totally Scotus!"

Person: "Nice. What are you going to do?"

Me: "I'm going to scotus to the store! And then eat some scotus dinner!"

Person: "Why are you shouting?"

Me: "SCOTUS!"

Wanna know what else is totally scotus? babieswithlasereyes.com It's just as it sounds. It's a website with pictures of babies with laser vision. Nothing entertains me more than babies making toast with their eyes.

I'm off to scotus.

Enjoy Everything

um...this thing...I...hmmmm...

I have no idea how to describe this, so I'm just going to blurt it out. In China, there is a mountain that lays eggs. It's true! The board of tourism says so!

They say that Gandeng Mountain has laid more than 100 eggs. And another one is expected soon. So you might want to book your next vacation to Gulu, China. To see a mountain. Lay an egg.

The article didn't specify what comes out of the egg. I think it's a baby mountain.

They're very cute. And playful. But you have to watch out for their peaks. They can be sharp. They're like baby porcupines or baby jellyfish. Fun to play with, but you could go home with an injury.

I guess the same could be said for human babies, too. Especially babies on roller skates. Scary AND dangerous.

I'm off to see a mountain baby.

Enjoy!

babies can do what?!

Do you know how humans talked 20,000 years ago? I do. I found an article about it. They were curious about conversations of the cave men. Here are the words they think sounded the same: I, we, two, three.

That sounds like a boring conversation.

"I two three."

"Three two we."

"We I three?!"

"TWO THREE WE!!!!!"

"THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!!!!"

I think one person is telling the other one that there is a sale on comic books. Or maybe it has to do with a falling rock. I'm not sure.

So, this story is talking about the evolution of humans and when our heads formed the hyoid bone and dropped the larynx, which allows us to talk. What I found out next will amaze you.

Newborns have a larynx that hasn't dropped yet. This allows babies to drink and breathe at the same time. WHAT?! How did I miss this piece of information my whole life?! And why does this change?!?! We wouldn't choke anymore!!!! Evolution got this backwards!

Imagine coming home for a brisk run (I actually don't know what that's like, but I'm imagining it) and needing a drink. You're breathing heavily, but still want to chug some water. You have to stop breathing to drink. Unless you're a baby. Then you can catch your breath AND drink at the same time!

So what does that tell you? Make your babies run a lot so you can see this happen, because you sure ain't doin' it.

Babies are weird, but maybe I'm just jealous because I can't breathe-drink.

I'm off to three we two I.

Enjoy!
